A Ware Shoals man has passed away in a tragic car collision that occurred early Sunday.

The victim was identified as 29-year-old Jeffery Lee Oliver. He was the driver of a 1993 Honda Civic traveling north on Riverfork Road near Old Oak Tree when, at around 12:10 a.m., it crashed head-on into a 2009 Mitsubishi Outlander with four people inside including a child.

Master Trooper Brandon Bolt said that the Honda Civic didn’t stop and continued its way after the collision striking a fence and trees before erupting in flames. The driver died at the scene while a passenger at the other car was hospitalized for minor injuries.

South Carolina Highway Patrol has launched an investigation into the crash.
