Washington D.C. news, Washington news.

President Trump has announced last month that he plans to attend the West Point graduation ceremony to address the cadets.

But now, Capitol Hill sources are speaking about more than a dozen coronavirus infections among these cadets as the ceremony looms: “About 1 ½ percent of the Class of 2020 who were brought back have tested positive,” A US Army spokesperson told news outlets.

The infected, estimated at 16 cadets, have returned to the campus amid the coronavirus outbreak last March: “The Army and West Point have done meticulous planning to ensure the health and safety of the returning cadets of the U.S Military Academy’s Class of 2020.”

Army Chief James McConville insisted that Trump’s addressing the cadets in person remains essential: “We can’t telecommute to combat,” he said.
