Michelle Lujan Grisham, New Mexico governor, has reportedly bought jewelry from a retail store around the same time she was urging other businesses to close amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In April, Grisham asked residents not to leave their homes unless they needed food or medical treatment: “We are in really tough financial times as a state. It mirrors the incredible, personal sacrifices that happen every single day because people have limited their ability to work, telecommunicating and many people, in fact, have lost their jobs.

Grisham called the store to make a purchase. Her spokeswoman Nora Meyers Sackett says that she didn’t break the guidelines as “it was an entirely contact-free purchase.”
