A Seattle boy is expected to be OK after he was attacked and dragged by a coyote on New Year’s Eve, officials said.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife said the coyote bit the boy in the upper body and tried dragging him to nearby woods at around 6 p.m.
The boy’s mother intervened and rushed the animal to release her son. The coyote roamed in the area until officers arrived and located the animal.
Their attempts to put the animal down failed after it escaped to a heavily wooded area.
Police said the boy was treated at a local hospital and is recovering.
Officials warned residents never to run away from a coyote but instead try to make loud noises to scare the animal away.
“Stand tall, stare into the eyes of the coyote, and shout at it. You also can throw something at it.”
