Biden calls for order amid violence in college campuses; says protests won’t change policies toward Gaza war

President Joe Biden broke days of silence on the escalating violence in college campuses Thursday calling for order and insisting that the pro-Palestine protests will not change his approach toward the ongoing war.

“Dissent is essential for democracy, but dissent must never lead to disorder,” Biden said at the White House.

Biden downplayed protesters’ demands to end U.S. support to Israel, answering “no” when asked whether the demonstrations would pressure him to change his policies.

  • He also said that he did not approve of sending the National Guard to campuses as some Republicans wanted nor did he want to “score political points” in such a situation.

    “There’s the right to protest, but not the right to cause chaos,” the Commander-in-Chief said as he left the White House for a trip to North Carolina.

    “People have the right to get an education, the right to get a degree, the right to walk across campus safely without fear of being attacked.”
