Washington DC news, Washington news.

President Joe Biden announced Wednesday the signing into law of a $95 billion war aid bill to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan marking the end of a Congress battle that lasted for months.

“We rose to the moment, we came together, and we got it done,” Biden said.

“Now we need to move fast, and we are.”

The Democratic President faces Republicans’ opposition since he first made an emergency spending request for Ukraine in August.

House Speaker Mike Johnson had to delay the vote on the aid measure for several months after receiving threats from members of his own party.

The funding impasse was also complicated by a provision requiring TikTok’s Chinese parent firm to sell the platform or be prohibited in the US.

While announcing the bill, Biden underscored that it includes about $1 billion in humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza.

He urged Israel to ensure that humanitarian aid for Palestinians finds its way to them “without delay.”
