Flash flooding warnings issued across NYC as heavy rain slams Big Apple

Flash flood warnings were issued across all New York City boroughs as heavy rain batters the state, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state of emergency after parts of the Big Apple were submerged under 6 inches of rain Friday.

“If you are home, stay home. We could possibly see 8 inches of rain before the day is over,” New York City Mayor Eric Adams said.

  • People were rescued from stranded vehicles and submerged basements. Subways were limited to “extremely” limited service.

    Flights to LaGuardia Airport have been put on hold after the rainfall flooded the airport’s fueling area and access roads.

    The rainfall is expected to lighten up by Saturday morning before moving out of the Northeast by the afternoon.
