North Carolina authorities have launched an investigation after finding 3 million dollars in cash hidden inside barrels of raw pork shoulders, the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office announced on Tuesday.
The discovery was made over the last weekend in Cleveland County when the sheriff's department officers pulled over a tractor-trailer on Interstate 85 after the driver failed to stay in his lane. Officers searched the vehicle after a K-9 alert. Investigators believe the money came from drug sales that were made throughout the region, the sheriff's department stated.
According to officials, the Department of Justice is contributing to the investigation. The driver's name was not immediately released.
