Local news outlets have reported that a key witness in the murder trial of former police officer Amber Guyger has been shot and killed by unknown assailants.
"Joshua Brown, the next-door neighbor of Botham Jean, was killed last night after being shot several times," S. Lee Merritt, Botham's family attorney wrote on social media. "An Assistant District Attorney has confirmed that it was, in fact, Brown who was killed although they have yet to identify a suspect or motive for the shooting."
In court, Joshua broke into tears as he testified about hearing his neighbor singing, undermining a key element of Guyger's defense claiming that she shouted verbal commands, that have never been heard by Joshua.
Guyger was sentenced to 10 years behind bars for the Sept. 6, 2018 murder of Botham Jean.
