Nashville news, Tennessee news.

Police said Renny McMahon, 50, stole an ambulance at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville at around 10:20 pm Monday, a short while later, he reportedly created a disruption. The police did not provide more details.

The Nashville Metropolitan Police Department said the authorities had used a GPS to track the ambulance to the Chestnut Hill area, just south of downtown.

An officer had driven behind the ambulance before McMahon stopped the vehicle in the middle of the street, turned it in the opposite direction and caused a violent collision with the police vehicle.

The officer was slightly injured and was treated and released from the nearby hospital, the police said.

After hitting the police vehicle, McMahon went to the nearby woods. The suspect was detained without incident and hospitalized after apparently spilling the ambulance into trees.

A spokeswoman for the Rutherford County Medical Service said the incident was under investigation.
