A 2-year-old New Jersey toddler died after being burned and suffocated by her mother's boyfriend last Thursday afternoon, Trenton police announced.

The horrifying crime took place at a home located on the 1500 block of Chestnut Avenue at around 4:20 p.m. Upon officers' arrival, they found Lia Victoria Merino-Rodriguez, unconscious after she has fallen down the stairs. She was transported to the hospital and died later in the night.
