A 17-year-old California girl’s death was ruled a suicide after she shot herself in the head inside a sheriff’s office station/

On Tuesday, the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner ruled the Sunday death of Johanna Gonzalez a suicide.

The girl entered the lobby of the Industry Sheriff’s Station at around 7:40 p.m. and grabbed a deputy’s holstered gun before shooting herself.

“There was an altercation and a critical incident occurred. This was not a deputy-involved shooting incident,” the LASD said at the time.

  • “It is alleged the female reached toward the deputy’s firearm and retrieved the firearm from the deputy’s holster,” Lt. Art Spencer added.

    “During the altercation, it is alleged that the female suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot wound with what we believe to be the deputy’s firearm.”

    Spencer said that before the deadly incident, deputies responded to the girl’s foster home in La Puente over a domestic disturbance but did not encounter her.

    “The deputies are OK. It is an unfortunate situation for everyone involved.”
