Fullerton news, California news.

A bank robber in his 70s was fatally shot by police after he threatened to bomb the building and stole money, the Fullerton Police Department said.

At around 5 p.m., the suspect stormed into the Wells Fargo Bank branch at 141 W. Bastanchury Road near Harbor Boulevard wearing a mask and carrying an explosive device in a white box.

The suspect showed the teller a facsimile device that resembled a real bomb and demanded money.

He was later shot outside the building after a SWAT team, and crews from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Bomb Squad arrived at the scene.

“The Bomb Squad located an item constructed to resemble an actual explosive device, referred to as a facsimile device, in the suspect’s possession at the time of the officer-involved shooting,” police said.

Employees and customers were safely evacuated and no other injuries were reported.

The California Department of Justice will lead the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.
