Birmingham’s 1st homicide of 2019:man shot to death in his yard.

An Ensley man was found shot to death in his own neighborhood just a few hours into the new year.

the victim was identified by Birmingham police on Wednesday as 57-years-old Earl Lee Evans Jr.

West Precinct officers responded to a shooting call at 7:19 a.m. Tuesday where the found the victim lying on his back in the front yard of an abandoned house next door to the house he shared with his mother.

he was pronounced dead at the scene, investigators were unable to determine the cause of death. an autopsy was performed Wednesday morning and authorities determine Evans had been shot.

Evans's death marked Birmingham's first homicide of 2019. 2018 murder cases reached 107 homicides, eight of which were ruled justifiable. In all of Jefferson County, there were 158 homicides last year.
