A Tennessee country singer fatally hit an elderly woman in a crosswalk late Sunday, hours after his CMA Fest participation.
Conner Smith, 24, failed to yield to the right of the pedestrian and hit 77-year-old Dorothy “Dot” Dobbins in a marked crosswalk on 3rd Avenue North near Van Buren Street in Germantown.
The singer was reportedly not impaired at the time of the crash. He was said to be cooperative and has not been charged in connection with the incident.
Residents said that they have to wave at cars to stop at the crosswalk, and that changes needed to be made because trees are blocking the signage.
“Did you see how they barely stopped?” a pedestrian said after crossing the road.
“Some [of the signs] are mere feet from the crosswalk, and people need more notification.”
