An evil Texas stepmother’s tears had little effect on the jury that sentenced her to 25 years behind bars for starving and torturing a 4-year-old boy to death.
Miranda Casarez, 25, cried uncontrollably Thursday before she was handed her sentence, telling the panel that she loved Benjamin “Benji” Cervera as one of her children.
Casarez starved Benjamin and tortured him by forcing him to drink urine, hot sauce, and hand sanitizer before he died weighing just 28 pounds in August 2017.
The jury was shown a heartbreaking video of little Benjamin begging for food on the very morning he died as Carsarez yelled at him that he wasn’t going to have it.
While she tried to pin the blame for the abuse on her husband, Brandon Lee Cervera, text messages exchanged with her mother told jurors another story.
“I don’t know how long I can take this. This f—ing kid, my son can’t sleep because of this little 5-year-old that everyone thinks is so perfect…I’m done. This kid needs a good one.”
Benjamin’s father will go on trial next month facing one count of injury to a child with the intent to cause serious bodily injury.
