Washington DC news, Washington news.

In a CNN interview Sunday, GOP Rep. Matt Gaetz revealed his intentions to file a motion to vacate against House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

“I do intend to file a motion to vacate against Speaker McCarthy this week,” he said.

“I think we need to rip off the Band-Aid. I think we need to move on with new leadership that can be trustworthy.”

In response, McCarthy told ABC News: “I’ll survive. Bring it on. Let’s get over with it.”

“I’m done owning Kevin McCarthy,” Gaetz added. “I’m not owning him anymore, because he doesn’t tell the truth.”

McCarthy accused the Florida Republican of having a personal grudge against him because of an ongoing Ethics Committee investigation.

“This is personal with Matt. [He] is more interested in securing TV interviews than doing something. He wanted to push us into a shutdown,” the speaker said.
