Shooting near US-Mexico border leaves 2 migrants dead; 3 wounded

A shooting on the Mexican side of the US-Mexico border killed two Mexican migrants and wounded three others Friday.

The incident occurred as a group of 14 migrants gathered at dawn on Cuchuma Hill near Tecate in the border state of Baja California.

  • Authorities are investigating the shooting but said that migrant crossings often involve cartels and rights of passage which causes confrontations between rival gangs in the area.

    The injured were treated at the scene by rescuers from Mexico’s National Migration Institute teams.
