California news, US news.

Rare and dangerous flooding is expected in Southern California as Hurricane Hilary approaches prompting the National Hurricane Center to issue a tropical storm watch for the area for the first time in history.

Hillary has intensified to a major Category 4 hurricane and is set to bring heavy rainfall and strong winds to the area from the California-Mexico border to the Los Angeles County – Orange County line and California’s Catalina Island.

“It is rare – indeed nearly unprecedented in the modern record – to have a tropical system like this move through Southern California,” Hurricane and Storm Specialist Greg Postel said.

By Friday morning, Hurricane Hillary was located roughly 360 miles south-southwest of Cabo San Lucas in Mexico, the NHC said expecting the storm to turn north-northwest in the next few hours.
