San Diego nurse diagnosed with coronavirus days after getting Pfizer vaccine

A San Diego, California nurse tested positive for coronavirus over a week after getting the Pfizer vaccine.

Matthew W. works as an ER nurse at two hospitals and serve at Covid units where he had likely contracted the deadly bug.

The nurse received the vaccine on Dec. 18 and felt arm soreness for the next hours.

On Christmas Eve, he felt ill after finishing his shift and started experiencing typical Covid symptoms.

  • A couple of days later, the 45-year-old got the test and learned that he had the coronavirus.

    Experts said that Matthew could have contracted the virus before getting the Pfizer shot that needs at least two weeks to work.

    “We know from the vaccine clinical trials that it’s going to take about 10 to 14 days for you to start to develop protection from the vaccine,” Dr. Christian Ramers said.

    “That first dose we think gives you somewhere around 50% and you need that second dose to get up to 95 percent.”
