Randall’s Island news, New York news.

Search crews are looking for a 5-year-old boy who fell into the Harlem River while climbing a tree on Randall’s Island on Saturday.

The NYPD, FDNY, and the tri-state coast guard are currently working to locate the missing boy. Boats huddled around the lake where he vanished.

An eyewitness said that the child’s parents jumped into waters looking for him and described the boy’s little arm out of the water.

The incident occurred at around 2:45 p.m. and the search operations continued until 8 p.m. when it got too obscure for divers and crews leading to the suspension of the search.

Authorities said that the boy and his parents were at Field 6 in the park to watch his brother’s soccer training. He started climbing the tree before losing balance and fell to the waters.

“I looked and heard screaming and saw parents going in the water,” Luis Ramos, a soccer coach who was at the scene said. “The two parents went in the water, and one more parent, and so I went looking and I called the police.”

“I said ‘Let me call in just to see what they say.’ And that was it we couldn’t find him anymore. The last thing I saw was a little arm sticking out.”
