Fire Island news, New York news.

An investigation has been launched into the mysterious disappearance of a Connecticut teacher after his remains surfaced in waters off Fire Island two months since his disappearance.

Gil Cunha has vanished in the early hours of his 50th birthday on May 7 from his coastal home in West Haven, Conn. His relatives said that he usually walked along the shore when he couldn’t sleep, but that night, he didn’t return.

On Thursday afternoon, body parts identified as Cunha’s were pulled from waters south of Long Island. It is believed that his body was mutilated on May 27 after being hit by a boat rotor.

Cunha was a teacher in Austria before divorcing and moving back to Connecticut. He had developed COVID-19 symptoms and was quarantined in the three weeks leading to his disappearance.
