Woman dead, another critical after fire breaks out at garage converted into living space in LA

A Los Angeles woman is dead and another is critical after a huge blaze tore through their home in Pacoima late Wednesday.

Firefighters responded to the incident at around 10:30 p.m. at a detached garage converted into a living space at 13574 Gager Street, the LAFD said.

They had to force entry to access the residence where they found two women, aged 60 and 39.

  • The older woman was declared dead at the scene while the other, who had special needs, was rescued by the crews but suffered severe burns.

    She received emergency treatment at the scene before being rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

    The LAFD said that it took 32 firefighters and nearly 20 minutes to put down the flames.

    The cause of the fire is under investigation.
