An Alabama mother and her two children were found slain in a “horrific” scene, authorities in Semmes said.
37-year-old Nancy Johnson and her two children, 6-year-old Mia and 2-year-old Jacob, were found dead by the children’s father.
Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch said that Mia appeared to have attempted to defend herself from the killer.
“I would say she put up a fight,” Burch added.
The sheriff said that the mother and children were not killed in a similar manner without elaborating. However, he told reporters that the children were not shot to death.
“It was more horrific than that. I’ll just leave it at that.”
In August, a judge granted the family a protection order from their father. Days before the massacre, another judge awarded custody of the kids to both parents and ordered DHS be given “protective supervision” of them.
The couple was going through an ugly divorce, neighbors said. Police were recently called to the home “numerous times”.
“They both told me they were going through a divorce, and it was getting and all that. I didn’t know it would go to this,” one said.
