Los Angeles news, California news.

A 31-year-old California man has been busted after being spotted posing as a member of the National Guard troops deployed in Los Angeles to control protests.

Gregory Wong was arrested on Tuesday on illegal possession of an assault weapon after Guardsmen at a City Hall demonstration noticed that decals on his uniform weren’t correct. Wong, a former National Guard’s member, had the helmet with the scope, sidearm, and rifle but his patches were suspicious.

Following his arrest, Wong said that he was trying to help: “While investigators are still looking into the incident, at this time it does not appear that Mr. Wong intended to harm anyone,” LAPD said.

Wong remained in custody on Tuesday. His bond was set at $50,000.
