5 occupants of passenger car killed in multi-vehicle crash in Pennsylvania

Five people riding in the same passenger car were killed Tuesday afternoon in a multi-vehicle crash in Fayette County, Pennsylvania.

Authorities said the victims, including an infant, were from Ohio. Their identities are being determined.

First responders were dispatched to the scene at the National Pike and New Meadow Run Drive intersection in Wharton Township just before 1:30 p.m.

Trooper Kalee Barnhart said the crash involved two passenger cars and a commercial vehicle.

  • All those killed in the crash were in one passenger car. Two people from the other passenger car suffered minor injuries while the driver of the commercial truck was not harmed.

    The cause of the collision is being investigated by the Pennsylvania State Police and the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office.

    “At this time, we don’t know what occurred and they’re in an active investigation as we speak,” Barnhart said.

    The deadly collision led to the shutdown of part of Route 40 for more than five hours.
