Man sentenced to 48 years in prison for murdering a woman amid burglary

The accused suspect in the burglary-murder case of a 28-year-old victim has been sentenced to 48 years in prison according to the district attorney's office.

Esstefan Hamlin, 26, has pleaded guilty last November to second-degree murder in connection with the death of Christina Weir who was found stabbed to death inside her Five Points Apartment in July 2017. Hamlin has also pleaded guilty to first degree burglary.

Hamlin had killed Weir in her apartment in the 500 block of 25th street amid a burglary of her home and car. Examination of the victim's body showed three "sharp force" injuries to her torso.

It was Hamlin's mother who led to them to arrest her son after she called police reporting that he was driving ca stolen car. He was arrested on Aug.1, 2017.
