Michigan authorities said that an 11-year-old boy had barely survived his injuries after he was attacked by a home invader early Thursday morning.

Police have arrested 21-year-old Denny William McNees within 30 minutes following the break-in during which he stabbed a boy with autism for at least times at around 3 a.m. The incident is described as random and investigators said that McNees tried unsuccessfully to break into several homes before finding the unlocked house.

“I was literally in deep sleep,” the boy’s mom said. “I turned on the light and there was just blood everywhere, blood in his face, just like a crime scene.”

McNees has been charged with home invasion and assault with intent to murder. He is being held at $500,000.
