Buffalo news, New York news.

New York police were investigating the discovery of an abandoned 3-year-old boy and a car burned with human remains to see if they were connected.

The boy was found Monday morning around 8 am, sleeping on the porch of a stranger, police reported. Ten hours later, police found the vehicle behind a mini-warehouse. The woman who found the boy said that the child kept saying "the car is on fire," according to a report.

Captain Jeff Rinaldo stated that the boy's grandparents in Florida identified the child and reported the disappearance of their parents and one of their friends.

He added that the investigators thought that the vehicle caught fire around 3 am Monday. He added that the boy had been placed with child protection workers and was in a "good mood".

The boy's grandmother told WKBW-TV on Tuesday that his name was Noelvin.

Her parents, Nicole Merced, 24, and Miguel Valentin, 31, have been out of touch with the family since Sunday, the station said.

Police interrogated the neighborhood in search of the boy's parents, Rinaldo said Monday.
