a baby's body had been found after a two-day search in a Greenville County landfill, The infant's mother has been charged in Edgefield County.
25-year-old Vernita LaShawn Jones of Clewiston is charged with homicide by child abuse. She is currently being held at the Edgefield County Detention Center.
the State Law Enforcement Division received a warning call from Jones' aunt who said her niece called her father, Walter Jones, and said she had smothered the baby to death and tried throwing the child out. Walter Jones called the police to warn them.
"It's hard for me to take," said Walter Jones. "It hurt me deep down inside. I can hardly talk about it."
The search began on Wednesday. Greenville County deputies were also assisting in the search at the Twin Chimneys landfill.
6-month-old Anthony Frost from Johnston was placed in a dumpster in Edgefield County area at some point over the weekend. The contents of that trash bin were then brought to the Greenville County landfill.
Jones admitted to suffocating and killing the baby boy on Nov. 24 in Edgefield County.
