Police in NYC apprehended man who caused mass evacuation, left pressure cookers throughout subway.

NYPD detective chief Dermot F. Shea said a man caught under surveillance the day before taking off two rice cookers from a cart and placing them in the kitchen. Interior of Fulton Street subway, in Lower Manhattan.

The officials did not identify the individual.

Police invaded the area around 7 am Friday after a pressure cooker was placed on the mezzanine and another on the platform of a subway station a few blocks from the World Trade Center.

Several subway lines were partially suspended during the Fulton Street investigation.

The authorities did not specify the nature of the intentions of this man, a manager stopped just before calling it "suspect".

Pressure cookers have recently become the device of choice for several national terrorist plots in recent years.

The man's name has not been confirmed by the police.
