A British elderly man has admitted guilt to manslaughter after he used an air rifle to shoot his 6-year-old great-grandson.

Albert Grannon, 77, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm without a certificate during a hearing in Hull Crown Court. The shooting occurred in July 2018 when the boy, Stanley Metcalf, has noticed a weapon in his great-grandfather's home and played with it. But it was unclear how Grannon ended up killing the boy.

Detective inspector Rebecca Dickinson said that Grannon has "shown no remorse," regarding his crime. "Stanley Metcalf was a fun-loving, football-mad little boy with loving parents and loving siblings," she added. "It makes it all the more tragic that it was a member of his own family who was ultimately responsible for his untimely death."
