Woman’s body found in trash can behind SC convenience store: ‘She was a very sweet person’

Police in Columbia, South Carolina swarmed a local convenience store Thursday morning after a woman’s body was found in a trash can.

Officers flooded the scene behind the Q-Mart in the corner of Colonial and Academy Drive where the body was discovered by an individual looking for food in the can.

“One of the guys said they were looking in the garbage can for food, and that’s when he saw a body,” a resident said.

  • Columbia Police confirmed the victim to be a female. A witness living near the Q-Mart said she recognized the deceased woman whom she had been helping with food and clothes.

    “She was a very sweet person. She was smart. She was just caught up in the homelessness and drug addiction.”

    The CPD said that a person of interest, who is not currently considered a suspect, was arrested for questioning.
