A divorced Alabama couple died this week in a murder-suicide after a 67-year-old man shot dead his ex-wife before turning the gun on himself.
Reinetta Lewis, 62, was shot multiple times and killed in her front yard in the 900 block of East Bunche Street in Dothan just before noon Wednesday.
Police received information that the suspect had gone into the residence leading them to force entry with the help of the Bomb and Explosive Detection Team.
The man, identified as Ansel Lewis, was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Police Lt. Scott Owens said that on Feb. 28, Reinetta Lewis obtained a protection order against Ansel after she accused him of breaking into her property and causing damage.
She also revealed that her ex-husband was sending her offensive text messages and comments on social media.
The couple married in February 2021 and divorced in January 2024.
