Jim Boeheim, Syracuse coach struck and killed a 51-year-old man on a highway

According to Syracuse police, Syracuse men's basketball coach Jim Boeheim was in a car with others before Wednesday, when he killed a 51-year-old man while trying to avoid another vehicle.

Boeheim cooperates with the investigation. Police said there was no sign that Boeheim had been hit.

Boeheim issued the following statement Thursday morning: I am sorry that a member of our community died as a result of the accident last night. Juli and I extend our deepest condolences to the Jimenez family.

Siracuse Sports Director John Wildhack also issued a statement: We are saddened by the death of a member of our community in central New York. On behalf of Chancellor Kent Syverud and the entire Syracuse University community, we extend our deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragic accident.
