Atlanta news, Georgia news.

The Atlanta-based rapper 21 Savage was taken into ICE custody on Sunday in a targeted operation.

Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph is now in deportation proceedings after he overstayed his visa obtained legally in July 2006.

The Grammy nominated artist has told XXL Magazine in 2016 that he is from Decatur, Georgia. His case is currently before a federal immigration judge to decide his removal outcome.

"Long story short, he came in 2005 legally; however, he subsequently failed to deport," ICE spokesman Bryan Cox told a news outlet. "His visa expired in 2006, he has been in the county unlawfully ever since."

21 Savage released his last album in December and has collaborated with artists like Travis Scott, J Cole and others.
