The Cook County medical examiner's office identified the victim of a shooting that occurred Friday near Palatine in an unincorporated area.
The 20-year-old man was identified as Jose L. Castaneda Jr. He was fatally shot in the back in the 1500 block of Norway Lane at around 4:18 p.m. The medical examiner stated that the victim lived in the 1500 block of Silver Lane, in the same apartment complex where the shooting has occurred.
Cook County sheriff's officers responded to the shooting report and immediately rushed the victim to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Castaneda's death was ruled a homicide according to the sheriff's office. The investigation is still ongoing.
