Royal Caribbean has confirmed Tuesday the death of one of its passengers, describing the accident as a tragedy after a 16-year-old boy's fatal falling from a balcony.
"We are saddened by the loss of one of our guests in a tragic accident," the ship's communication manager said. The Broward medical examiner identified the victim as Laurent Mercer of the Wallis and Futuna Islands in the South Pacific. He was spending a seven-days trip with his family on Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas Cruise Ship. The teen tried to enter his room through a nearby balcony when he slipped and fell. He sustained fatal head trauma and was pronounced dead at 11:42 a.m.
Royal Caribbean did not offer further details about the tragedy.
