According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, the Sheriff of Colleton County was arrested on Saturday on a charge of domestic violence.

Robert Anderson Strickland faces a charge of second-degree domestic violence in connection with an incident on Thursday.

An affidavit states that during an argument, Strickland assaulted the victim by "punching his face, his fist closed, more than once, which caused him moderate bodily harm." Investigators also stated that the victim suffered a defensive arm injury to protect his face.

Strickland physically took possession of the victim's cell phones, "denying him access to both cell phones, preventing him from reporting the incident or receiving emergency medical assistance," the affidavit states.

Investigators say he also damaged the vehicle she tried to flee.

Strickland was released Saturday on a personal commitment.
