Louisiana news.

The Gulf Coast states are expecting the first hurricane of the season. Barry is getting closer to the coasts of Louisiana and Mississippi as it transforms to a hurricane with winds reaching over than 80 mph.

The National Weather Service said that the tropical storm will likely become a hurricane before hitting the shore after strengthening during the night. It is also expected to make landfall south of Lafayette in Louisiana, nearly 135 miles west of New Orleans.

Forecasters warned the Louisiana and Mississippi residents about the risk of flooding since Barry could bring up to 25 inches of rain in some areas. Floodgates have been raised in preparation for the strong storm.
