The Lawrence teen who was convicted of beheading his classmate and stabbing him for 76 times is slated to be sentenced on Tuesday.
Mathew Borges, now 18, has committed the gruesome crime when he was 15 in 2016. He was convicted of first-degree murder with "deliberate premeditation with extreme atrocity and cruelty" in connection with the death of 16-year-old Manuel Viloria-Paulino.
The body of the victim was found in Merrimack River while his head was found nearby. His hands have never been found.
According to the medical examiner, the victim was stabbed for at least 76 times. It was unclear for authorities to determine whether he was stabbed alive or after his death.
In Massachusetts, the maximum sentence for first-degree murder is life in prison.
