A Phoenix father had reportedly shot his son whom he said abused his dogs, according to court documents.

Carl Myrick, 66, was charged with aggravated assault and unlawful discharge of a firearm within city limits after he allegedly opened fire at his son in the chest, causing him serious injuries.

The altercation between the pair started when a friend told Myrick that his son kicked his dogs. The dispute between the father and son turned violent when the latter punched him which made Myrick enter to the house and return with his handgun.

The father told authorities he loved his son and didn't want to shoot him. He said he only realized he opened fire when he saw blood pouring from the victim's mouth.
