Fort Meade news, Maryland news.

A Maryland teacher is accused of harming one of his students' fingers after he slammed the classroom's door at her hand.

Middle School teacher, Steven Akers, caused the student severe nerve damages to three of her fingers. The incident occurred in 2017 when Akers strongly slammed the door in order to get the students' attention and didn't notice the girl, who was asking him a question, unintentionally hurting her fingers.

The girl's father filed a lawsuit against the former teacher accusing him of negligence that left serious and permanent damage to his daughter's fingers even after undergoing a surgery.

The teacher had reportedly resigned last year. His trial is scheduled for June.
