A South Carolina runner was badly injured after been assaulted by a passing bicyclist when she waived and offered a smile, police said.
News outlets reported that the incident took place on the West Ashley Greenway last Monday.
According to witnesses, the woman whose name was not revealed, smiled and waived at the young man who started yelling and asked her why she looked at him.
He then tackled the victim from behind and started punching her which caused her serious injuries including lacerations on her right ear, neck and chest before leaving the crime scene while throwing water bottles and food containers.
