The driver of a sports car was tragically killed in a train crash after he ignored warning signals and lights at a crossing in south Kansas City.
Officer Alayna Gonzalez said that the sole occupant of a blue Jaguar S-Type sports sedan went around a rail crossing gate arm on Holmes Road north of East 134th Street ignoring flashing lights and a bell.
The car was attempting to cross the tracks when it was struck by an oncoming Union Pacific freight train at around 8 a.m. Monday.
Gonzalez said that the car’s driver, who was not wearing a seat belt, was declared dead at the scene.
The train’s operator and engineer were not harmed in the collision.
Kansas City Police is investigating the deadly crash.
