Shooting during high school senior skip day leaves 5 students wounded in Maryland

A mass shooting in Greenbelt, Maryland has left five people wounded during a high school skip day that turned violent, Prince George’s County authorities said.

Gunfire broke out at Hanover Parkway at around 2:30 p.m. Friday while hundreds of students gathered for a party at the park.

“My heart breaks for them. These are just kids trying to have a good time,” Greenbelt Police Chief Rick Bowers said.

    “This is a horrible, tragic, senseless act that happened today. There is no reason that this occurred. These were seniors or senior skip day.”

    “If a group of high school students can not get together and have a good time, what is the world coming to?”

    No arrests were made in connection with the shooting.
