University of Oregon football player arrested over fatal hit-and-run crash

A University of Oregon football player was arrested this week over a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a 46-year-old man Monday night.

19-year-old Daylen Amir Austin was allegedly involved in the crash at W. 4th Avenue and Polk Street in Eugene, Oregon about three miles from the college campus.

The victim was only identified as a 46-year-old man.

  • “Daylen Amir Austin, age 19, was arrested at 11:45 p.m. on April 15 and has initially been charged with felony Hit and Run,” Eugene Police said.

    “This is a complex investigation and EPD is still gathering information to be submitted to the Lane County District Attorney’s Office for a final charging decision.”

    Austin played three games with Oregon as a freshman last season after joining the team from Long Beach Poly High in Southern California.
