Houston news, Texas news.

A Houston mother was arrested this week for abandoning her two children while on a cruise trip that lasted five days.

Neighbors of Lakesha Woods Williams, 29, grew worried for the children's safety after learning that the 6 and 8 years old were alone in their luxury high-rise apartment on Katy Freeway.

Police were called for a wellness check on April 9 with neighbors reporting seeing Williams leaving with luggage on April 4.

Officers also found a camera used to watch the kids and talk to them and a phone with the older child to text the mother while she was away.

Child Protective Services and the Houston Fire Department responded to the scene to evaluate the situation. The children were then placed under the custody of their aunt.

Williams tried to elude deputies, changing her whereabouts multiple times before she was detained Thursday night.
