Jackson news, Mississippi news.

A Mississippi firefighter is dead after he was fatally shot by his girlfriend inside their Jackson home Sunday.

Fellow firefighters went to Gerald “Buster” Bates’ home to check on him after he failed to show up for work and made the shocking discovery.

The 49-year-old firefighter was found dead from gunshot wounds. His 41-year-old girlfriend, Tammie Williams, was barricading herself inside the home.

Police responded to the scene and spent more than an hour negotiating with the suspect before forcing entry to the residence and taking her into custody.
