Alabama man, 70, charged in fatal hit-and-run crash that killed teen

An elderly Alabama man was charged with murder over a hit-and-run that claimed an 18-year-old man’s life Wednesday.

Walter Lee Ellison was arrested at 12:08 a.m. Wednesday traveling on the wrong side of the road near Allison Bonnett and Brooklane Drive intersection.

The officer noticed damage to Ellison’s Ford F-150 and took him into custody for DUI.

  • Around six hours later, the body of 18-year-old Gabriel Demor was found near the intersection of Hueytown Road and Walker Avenue, just off the road.

    Numerous car parts were at the scene and further evidence linked Ellison to the deadly crash.

    Investigators believe Ellison struck Edwards as he walked north on Hueytown Road at 11:30 p.m.

    Ellison was charged with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in injury or death.
